Introduction

Funding Tools on this site include an indexed guide providing funding sources for community-based development projects. It has been designed to help local community and voluntary groups identify potential funding sources for the projects that they wish to develop.

The guide includes a wide range of possible funding sources from local Trust Funds to European Initiatives and aims to provide community groups with a first point of contact as well as an outline of the various schemes available. While the content of each entry varies, generally-speaking they all set out to answer the following questions:

  • What the funding is for
  • How much funding is available
  • Who can apply
  • When to apply
  • How to apply

The guide includes an index which categorizes funding sources into different types of projects such as support for Arts, Environment, Sports and Youth groups.

Please note that this listing is for guidance only and is not intended to be totally comprehensive. In particular, it should be borne in mind that National Lottery, European, Inverness and Nairn Enterprise and some Highland Council funding schemes all have wide scopes of applicability and so may be of relevance to a larger number of project categories than are indicated in this index.

Most of the fund-giving sources alter their arrangements from time to time, if only in detail. If this booklet is being referred to an appreciable time after publication (November 2000), applicants are advised to make a preliminary check on its up to date accuracy from the contact address before spending time making an application.

As well as information about different funding sources the guide also includes a short advice section on other ideas for community fundraising and the type of things to consider and include when making a grant application.

In addition to the funding guide this part of the community toolkit site also includes self help advice notes on Applications and Bid Writing and Local Community Fundraising Ideas.

The funding tools have been developed in partnership with the local voluntary and community training sector from Inverness and Nairn.
